On February 28th, Amazon Web Services went down — but their AWS Service Health Dashboard showed everything as working, which was pretty confusing — but then at 11:35am The Update happened:
Amazon: We have now repaired the ability to update the service health dashboard
Amazon’s own data services were a point of failure for their Service Health Dashboard. They couldn’t event communicate to customers what was broken because of what broke.
In their retrospective on the whole boondoggle, they had this to say
“The system that we use to report status on our services depends on our service to be up in order to report status”
